Listen to the sound of wikipedia

oweeeeendennis:

This is a way to listen to changes to wikipedia. You are literally listening to knowledge being added to the world.

Pluck sounds are an addition, strings are subtractions, and the pitch says how how big the edit is. My heart shudders at this I love it so much.

Since the holidays are coming up, I figured I should post about this again.

If you or someone you know suffers from anxiety, dermatillomania, trichotillomania or find that you simply need something to do with your hands - then you may want to get (or ask for!) a spinner ring

I just now realized that I’ve always wanted this.

I’ve wanted one of these for ages!

commission for Gin!!
This was a really, really interesting one. The chains in and of themselves were just…. an experience. I actually had a lot of fun executing the idea.

i want the kind of funding that scientists in comic books have.  where are you getting this money?  do you publish papers or do you just turn people into giant lizards and call it a day?  do you have to get that shit peer reviewed?  who is paying for your research?  can you give me their email address

And this is partly why I love Jonathan Crane and Darkman so much. Just want to be left alone with their research, but poverty keeps getting in the way.

deilin:

"Some call me Nature. Others call me Mother Nature. I’ve been here for over four and a half billion years, 22.500 times longer than you. I don’t really need people, but people needs me.

Yes, your future depends on me. When I thrive, you thrive; when I falter, you falter… or worse.

But I’ve been here for eons. I have fed species greater than you… and I have starved species greater than you. My oceans, my soil, my flowing streams, my forests, they all can take you… or leave you.

How you choose to live each day or do you regard ou disregard me don’t really matter to me. One way or the other, your actions will determine YOUR fate, not mine. I am Nature. I will go on. I am prepared to evolve.

Are you?”

The Mystical World Of Mushrooms Captured In Photos

Most people consider mushrooms to be the small, ugly cousins of the plant kingdom, but theirs is  surprisingly beautiful and wonderful world waiting to be explored. These beautiful mushrooms, captured by enthusiastic nature photographers, are a far cry from the ones you find in the woods or your local grocery store.

Most mushrooms, as we know them, are actually just the reproductive structure of the fungus they belong to – their fungal networks expand far further underground, and some fungi don’t even sprout the sort of mushrooms that we’re used to seeing. In fact, depending on your definition of “organism,” the largest living organism in the world is a fungus – there’s a honey mushroom colony in Oregon that occupies about 2,000 acres of land! It has not been a very productive summer so far. This is from the past semester, but I spent a while nitpicking.
